In 2015, the UN launched the SDGs to address global challenges, including those related Economic Growth, Sustainable Cities, Responsible Production and Consumption and most importantly, Climate Change. Though our larger focus is towards encompassing most of the SDGs throughout our practices, we find our venture vastly relevant to these Goals, observing how immensely they add up to our plan of making the practices of personal care more conscious ecologically.
“Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.”
With a close knit family at Ecocradle, we attempt to eliminate any communication barriers amongst us and work closely while understanding the challenges and resolving them together. With a team of only adequate members, it is easier to discuss ideas, follow-ups and allot resources essentially. As our products are completely handmade, there is opportunity for work in every step of production and hence, creates economic opportunities for everyone associated with the process.
“By choosing to act sustainably we choose to build cities where all citizens live a decent quality of life, and form a part of the city’s productive dynamic, creating shared prosperity and social stability without harming the environment.”
Our work at Ecocradle is not just to create products with a healthier self care regime but also a way to enrich the environment we live in by making our products zero-waste throughout their lifecycle. Apart from curating products our work is also about encouraging healthier practices and sharing information about the same through our presence on different platforms as well as through various social interactions. Most of our practices are threaded around the fact that the better the conditions we create in our community, the greater the effect on quality of life. With every product that reaches an individual, we also attempt to create a community of people who are willing to create a zero-waste impact. Currently, through our social media platforms and on-field interactions, we have created a network of people in the city who are trying to switch to a zero-waste lifestyle and are inspired to try different ways.
“Innovation and design solutions can both enable and inspire individuals to lead more sustainable lifestyles, reducing impacts and improving well-being.”
Being conscious about our practices in manufacturing, transporting and disposing, as an environmentally friendly venture, it is our priority to be responsible for every phase of our products and this is majorly translated into our design ideas from the start to end of a product’s lifecycle. It is always our first practice to start from our surroundings, to supply locally and encourage our counterparts to do the same. Our products are made to order and we avoid promoting bulk consumption. Catering to the local demands helps us to encourage refilling as the new normal and allows us to be more responsible for our products. It also helps us emphasize on the fact that if we can sell to or buy from sustainable and local sources we can make a difference as well as exercising pressure on businesses to adopt sustainable practices. Our products are designed in such a way that they originate from nature and return to nurture the ecosystem, largely visible in our packaging methods where we use Aluminium and glass bottles and jars to make our packaging plastic-free.
“We are seeing how climate change can exacerbate storms and disasters, and threats such as food and water scarcity, which can lead to conflict. Doing nothing will end up costing us a lot more than if we take action now.”
Our products are mainly made from natural ingredients and we have always worked to keep them as good without any preservatives and intense processing. This makes our product range chemical-free in the true sense and therefore does not need a lot of resources to obtain the end products. Palm oil plantations are the main cause of continuous cutting and burning of tropical woodland and produce much waste which is smothering for land and aquatic life. Though easily available, it is difficult to deal with consequences related to palm oil cultivation and usage. Therefore apart from being cruelty-free, our products are also palm-free. Therefore our products and practices stand in-line with what is necessary to tackle climate change and its impacts through the simplest means possible. We take our venture as an opportunity to take actions through personal care that will lead to more jobs, great prosperity, and better lives for all while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building climate resilience.
